Lucy comments:  I was very pleased to help judge the first Blossom Day W4 Haiku and Poem Competition. I loved reading the thoughtful and imaginative poems, especially enjoying some beautiful turns of phrase which brought images of spring and blossom to life. Well done to all the entrants.

A big thank you to all our entrants and to Chiswick Book Festival for your support. Please enjoy the poems and haikus below:

BLOSSOM TREES

A coil squashed bursts into life

At godly heights above the people and their passing feet

‘you have not defeated us’ they protest in fireworks of throbbing colours,

Velvety colours, softening the dark mornings

Sometimes wind pierces the idyllic day, a cold knife against soft flesh

A silent descent, careful and measured

A scattered blanket warms the concrete underfoot

Snow fall of delicate petals; the children build blossom men in the streets.
